David (rehab)

This poem was published in Dark Woods.
 It ended with a kiss,
your arms still wrapped around me.
I, too afraid of rejection -
You, unsure of my intention.

In your eyes I recognised my hurt;
mine mirrored your desire.

Three days of bliss under the scorching sun.
Laughter, questions and a stolen touch.
Your eyes hidden,
mine vulnerable,
to sparks of light.

Three days to arrive at this moment -
and now it's gone.

The memory of your embrace,
will keep me warm at night
when you have long forgotten my name.

I wanted to stay but walked away,
hoping somehow you would find me.
Life is not a movie,
so I will soon have to face;

It ended with a kiss.
